You may have noticed that I haven't posted anything new recently. Well, that's because class started. Yep, actual class. Apparently study abroad involves real study-- who knew? Actually, my classes seem quite interesting. Right now I'm taking two, which will last through September: European Capital Markets & British Macroeconomic Perspective. And although the professors and subject matter do, at first glance, appear to be interesting, I have to say that this week has rattled me a bit. We have four hours of class a day and quite a bit of reading each night. Needless to say, I simply have not recently studied quite so intensely.
Despite its rigor, my schedule offers totally open afternoons. Class finishes at one and, ignoring my pile of reading for the moment, I usually saunter to the Tube station and try to see something useful. Unfazed by the pouring rain, one of my flatmates and I surveyed the British Museum this week. The only two words superlative enough to accurately describe the British Museum are: grandiose and colossal. The two of us wandered through three rooms, spending 2.5 hours, and didn't even make a dent. Literally. We just barely stole a glance at the Rosetta Stone through the mob of clumsy tourists, explored the ancient Egyptian wing, fought Gladiator-enthusiasts off in the ancient Roman gallery, and marveled at the remains of the Parthenon. On the way to the museum, I thought I was simply going to tick another museum off of my list of Touristy and Educational Things to Do Whilst in London. I stand corrected. The British Museum can, by no means, be checked off one's life list in a day, let alone two weeks.
Glad to see your are learning to appreciate the benefits of centuaries of pillage and plunder. That will serve you well in your econ classes.
ReplyDeleteAm please to see that you are finding those interesting as well.
Keep up the informative blogs.I'm in my second day in Parkersburg/Marietta. I went on an LST, landing ship tanks, today. It was in Pittsburgh ove ethe weekend,Lowers could not get to see it the lines were so long. Went to dinner last night on the river in Marietta and it had docket after a 26 hour trip on the Ohio from Pittsburgh. It took me 2 3/4 hours by car. This ship carried troops and tanks on D day, was interesting but not as interesting as the British Museum, took me an hour to go through it. Miss you!
